One man from Newcastle, England is solely responsible for Milton becoming a soon-to-be settlement back in early 18th Century. Armed with only his wife and sons, Jasper Martin built a makeshift, temporary home beside Sixteen Mile Creek and two years later, the Crown allowed Mr. Martin 100 acres of land in which to expand his homestead. A smart move on his part, Mr. Martin built a grist mill (grain-grinding mill that makes flour from the grains) and a pond to aid in powering the mill (now called Mill Pond).
